HIVE taps LATAM for stable and low-cost energy partnership
HIVE Digital Technologies, led by president and CEO Aydin Kilic, is focusing on Paraguay as a long-term clean energy partner rather than seeking short-term regional gains. Kilic highlights Paraguay's geopolitical stability, low-cost hydro energy, and government support for foreign investments as key advantages. HIVE is expanding its operations by acquiring Bitfarms’ 200 MW Yguazú facility for $56 million and plans to grow to 300 MW—with a target hashrate of 25 EH/s by September 2025. The company emphasizes building local relationships and investing in community hiring and training to support its operations while advocating for clear mining legislation. Additionally, to mitigate geopolitical risks, HIVE is diversifying its data center locations across North and South America and has secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and key ASIC orders. Kilic also addresses profitability in Bitcoin mining, indicating that it relies on managing operational costs, energy efficiency, and consistent treasury management. This comprehensive strategy reflects HIVE's commitment to creating a sustainable and efficient mining ecosystem in Latin America.
