Helium Mobile introduces free plan, hikes price for unlimited data
Helium Mobile has revamped its pricing model for new subscribers. The former $20 monthly plan for unlimited calls, texts, and data has been replaced with an invite-only free tier offering 3 GB of data, 300 texts, and 100 minutes. Additionally, a $15 plan includes 10 GB of data with unlimited talk and text, while the new unlimited plan costs $30 per month. Existing legacy subscribers can retain their $20 rate. The company also launched a points program that rewards users for activities like location sharing, which can be redeemed for gift cards. These changes come after a challenging year for the company, which experienced significant layoffs and legal challenges, including a fraud charge from the SEC against its parent company, Nova Labs. Helium Mobile aims to drive revenue growth through this new pricing structure, although the demand for the free tier remains uncertain, particularly among crypto users who often consume more data.
