Hackers use New York Post’s X account to send scam DMs, users report
Hackers have compromised the New York Post’s X account, sending unsolicited direct messages to crypto users about a fake podcast interview and inviting them to connect via Telegram. This issue came to light on May 3, reported by Kerberus CEO Alex Katz, who highlighted a message supposedly from journalist Paul Sperry. Notably, the hackers avoided posting links or wallet addresses, focusing instead on direct messaging and directing users to Telegram. Following the message, users were blocked from responding, thus preventing alerts to the legitimate New York Post team. Other individuals, such as Donny Clutterbuck from the NFT Bitcoin platform, suggested a possible Zoom exploit that grants network access. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT noted a similar incident involved messages from another account, The Defiant. This isn't the first time the New York Post's account has been hijacked; a 2022 episode involved obscene messages masquerading as actual news headlines. As scams evolve, direct messaging has become a prevalent tactic, stressing the need for users to remain vigilant against such attempts.
