Gemini to launch crypto derivatives in Europe with new license
Gemini has received regulatory approval to expand its crypto derivatives trading across Europe. The exchange secured a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), allowing the launch of derivatives like perpetual futures for advanced users in the European Union and European Economic Area. As of May 8, 2025, Gemini Intergalactic EU Artemis operates under this license. This development follows Gemini's transition to Malta as its hub for compliance with the EU's MiCA framework announced in January. Despite this progress, the exchange has yet to secure full MiCA licensing. The upcoming launch of crypto derivatives marks a notable trend as more exchanges venture into this market, highlighting the growing importance of derivatives in the crypto space, supported by recent movements from major players like Coinbase.
