Aavegotchi, an NFT protocol focused on Web3 gaming, has decided to leave Polygon and move entirely to Base, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling chain, following an on-chain vote where 93.5% of its community members supported the proposal to transition. The shift was motivated by the lackluster growth of Polygon's total value locked (TVL) and the stronger position of Base among retail users. As of April 8, Polygon's TVL has dramatically decreased from nearly $10 billion in 2021 to around $725 million, while Base and Arbitrum have each surpassed $2 billion in TVL. Aavegotchi’s developer, Pixelcraft Studios, had to make significant team cuts to extend their runway amidst the broader downturn in the cryptocurrency market. The protocol's founder expressed concerns over Polygon's stagnant development and indicated a preference for Base due to its effective retail onboarding capabilities.
