A new study from Florida State University indicates that regular aerobic exercise can mitigate some of the health risks associated with heavy drinking among young adults. Presented at the American Physiological Society’s conference, the research showed that mice consuming large amounts of alcohol but engaged in daily exercise had lifespans comparable to non-drinking mice. Conversely, sedentary heavy drinkers experienced significantly shorter lifespans. The study encourages young adults to integrate aerobic exercise into their routines to reduce possible negative health impacts from alcohol consumption. As chronic heavy drinking can threaten vital organs and increase the likelihood of serious illnesses, incorporating physical activity may provide protection.
