French minister to meet crypto firms after kidnapping attempt
France’s interior minister Bruno Retailleau is set to meet with cryptocurrency professionals to discuss rising security issues following a kidnapping attempt on the family of Pierre Noizat, CEO of the crypto exchange Paymium. The incident occurred on May 13, when three masked men attempted to abduct Noizat’s daughter while she was out in Paris. Thankfully, bystanders intervened, scaring off the attackers. This attempted kidnapping has raised alarms within the crypto community, highlighting the increasing security risks faced by crypto executives. Various reports indicate a surge in in-person crypto-related thefts, with recent statistics showing at least 22 incidents of such attacks this year alone. The rise in violence has prompted many to advocate for increased anonymity and security measures within the industry. Paris has seen a series of similar incidents in 2024, raising concerns about the overall safety of crypto entrepreneurs in the region. Retailleau's upcoming meeting aims to collaboratively address these critical security challenges with industry stakeholders.
