French crypto entrepreneurs to receive extra security amid recent kidnappings
French law enforcement will enhance security measures for crypto entrepreneurs and their families in response to a surge in kidnappings linked to the sector. The measures, introduced by Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, include priority access to police emergency services, home security evaluations, and safety briefings to help individuals adopt best practices for protection. This initiative comes after multiple kidnapping incidents, including a recent attack on Pierre Noizat, CEO of Paymium, where he and his grandson were targeted but managed to escape. Previous events involved crypto entrepreneur David Balland being held captive for days before a police operation secured his release. Reports indicate there have been over 150 kidnapping or robbery cases related to crypto since 2014, with 23 of these occurrences happening in 2025 alone. Law enforcement will also be trained in anti-crypto asset laundering techniques to better combat this issue. The focus is on both immediate and longer-term strategies to deter these crimes and protect the cryptocurrency industry.
