French crypto entrepreneurs to receive extra security amid recent kidnappings
French crypto entrepreneurs and their families will be provided with enhanced security measures due to a rise in crypto-related kidnappings. These measures include priority access to police emergency lines, home security assessments, and safety briefings from law enforcement. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated that these steps aim to protect the industry in response to recent attacks. He met with local crypto leaders to discuss the situation following three incidents involving kidnappings this year. One notable event occurred on May 13, involving Pierre Noizat's grandson, who was targeted but managed to escape the assailants. In another case on May 3, a crypto entrepreneur was kidnapped in a €7 million plot, and prior to that, Ledger co-founder David Balland was held captive in January. There have been over 150 crypto-related robberies or kidnappings since 2014, with 23 incidents reported in 2025 alone. Experts warn that criminals often identify victims through social media and recommend caution in showcasing wealth online.
