Franklin Templeton launches Bitcoin, Ether index ETF
Franklin Templeton has introduced an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that includes both spot Bitcoin and Ether, announced on February 20. Named the Franklin Crypto Index ETF (EZPZ), it follows closely after the launch of Hashdex's Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF (NCIQ) on February 14. The EZPZ fund incorporates assets from the US CF Institutional Digital Asset Index, which currently consists of approximately 87% Bitcoin and 13% Ether. The fund aims to simplify access to digital assets for US investors, providing exposure to Bitcoin and Ether without needing to buy them directly. Franklin Templeton intends to add more cryptocurrencies to the fund as they qualify for inclusion in the index, subject to regulatory permissions. Meanwhile, US regulators have been increasingly open to crypto-related investment products, coinciding with a promising shift in political leadership that favors cryptocurrency.
