FIFA has selected Avalanche to develop a dedicated blockchain for its NFT marketplace, FIFA Collect, as announced on May 22. This new layer-1 (L1) blockchain is designed to enhance digital fan experiences for FIFA's vast global audience. The decision followed a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as performance, security, transaction fees, customizability, and scalability. The migration will allow FIFA to provide unique digital collectibles and immersive experiences leveraging Avalanche's scalability and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility. Following the transition, Algorand-based wallets will no longer be supported, with access now available through MetaMask and other EVM-compatible wallets. Additionally, FIFA plans to explore further business initiatives, though specific details have yet to be released. This blockchain initiative is part of FIFA's broader digital strategy leading up to the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
