FIFA shifts NFT platform to new Ethereum-compatible blockchain
FIFA has announced the launch of its own blockchain network designed to host NFT collectibles and enhance fan experiences. This new blockchain, named the FIFA Blockchain, will be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and is expected to provide improved performance, features, and scalability. The FIFA Collect NFT collection will migrate from the Algorand blockchain to the FIFA Blockchain, with the migration process slated to begin no earlier than May 20, 2025. FIFA assured its users that no immediate action is required at this stage and that detailed instructions will be provided during the migration. Following this transition, Algorand-based wallets such as Pera and Defly will no longer be supported, and users will be encouraged to connect to FIFA Collect through EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask. Any listed collectibles will be automatically transferred to the new platform unless users choose to delist them beforehand. FIFA has recognized the need for this migration to enhance user experience and engage its audience more effectively through NFTs.
