FIFA Collect, the official digital collectibles platform for FIFA, is set to transition to its own Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain, departing from Algorand. This change is expected to take place no sooner than May 20, and no immediate action is required from users or NFT owners. The migration is aimed at enhancing platform performance, scalability, and user experience. FIFA Collect initially launched its collectibles on Algorand, a proof-of-stake blockchain, during the lead-up to the last World Cup in 2022. Although FIFA previously expanded to mint collectibles on Ethereum's Polygon network, the current shift signifies a definitive move away from Algorand. Post-migration, support for Algorand wallets will cease and users will need to utilize EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask. FIFA Collect plans to provide further details about the new blockchain soon, emphasizing its potential for new features and improved wallet compatibility.
