XNET, a Solana-based decentralized network project, has partnered with AT&T to allow the telecom giant to offload mobile data traffic onto XNET’s network. This collaboration commenced in September 2024 and enables AT&T's wireless customers to seamlessly connect to XNET’s Wi-Fi hotspots. XNET compensates its network’s node operators with tokens based on data usage, which AT&T pays for in dollars. Currently, XNET operates 688 active nodes with approximately 9 million users connected to the network. XNET’s co-founder, Richard DeVaul, emphasized that funding their infrastructure through token sales was critical, allowing them to avoid traditional equity or debt financing. Unlike Helium, which offers B2C services by allowing individuals to deploy hotspots, XNET focuses solely on B2B, targeting high-value locations for installation. This positions Helium as a potential customer rather than a direct competitor. Ultimately, the partnership aims to alleviate network congestion and enhance coverage for mobile customers.
