Everything is lining up — Tokenization is having its breakout moment
Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) is transitioning from abstract to practical as institutional players increasingly adopt blockchain technology. Recent announcements include BlackRock tokenizing $150 billion of its Treasury Trust fund and Libre planning to tokenize $500 million in Telegram debt via a new bond fund. MultiBank Group is collaborating with MAG and Mavryk in what is considered the largest RWA tokenization initiative to date. Industry experts assert that evolving regulations and enhanced technological capabilities are driving this trend. While Ethereum remains the primary platform for large-scale RWA issuance, alternative ecosystems are emerging. Despite the advancements, challenges persist, particularly around regulatory compliance and the need for interoperability between blockchains. Analysts speculate that between 5% and 30% of global financial assets could be tokenized by 2030, indicating substantial growth potential for the market, which could reach a valuation between $30 and $50 trillion by the decade's end.
