Ethereum's Pectra Upgrade Set for May Following Technical Hurdles
Ethereum's upcoming Pectra upgrade, initially set for March 2025, will now launch on May 7, 2025, after overcoming technical issues on various testnets. The upgrade aims to improve scalability and increase validator staking limits from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. A significant feature includes the introduction of account abstraction, which enables users to pay transaction fees using multiple tokens, including stablecoins. The upgrade follows successful trials on the Hoodi testnet and the achievement of finality on the Holesky testnet. Ethereum developers confirmed the May launch during a developer call. The Pectra upgrade marks the most significant change since the Ethereum network shifted to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism in 2022, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance the network's functionality without disrupting the primary blockchain operations.
