Ethereum Testnet Holesky Achieves Finality After Delays in Pectra Upgrade
Ethereum's Holesky testnet has achieved finality, marking a significant milestone after facing delays due to technical challenges related to the upcoming Pectra upgrade. Initially set for a March 2025 launch, Pectra seeks to enhance the network’s scalability and efficiency but was postponed to resolve issues that arose during earlier testnet deployments. Finality means that all transactions on Holesky are immutable, allowing for testing of upgrades without disrupting the main Ethereum network. The Pectra upgrade will also introduce the ability for users to pay gas fees with cryptocurrencies other than ETH and increase the maximum stakable ETH from 32 to 2,048. Progress is contingent on further testing, including a planned “shadow fork” to continue development while maintaining network stability. Ethereum's ETH cryptocurrency has seen significant decline recently, down over 10% in the last 24 hours and 52.5% year-on-year.
