Ethereum refactors itself for Glamsterdam hard fork
The Ethereum Foundation is reorganizing its engineering division in preparation for the upcoming Glamsterdam hard fork. This new structure aims to focus on three main goals: scaling Layer 1 (L1), expanding blobspace, and enhancing user experience (UX). Tim Beiko, project coordinator, noted that this reorganization intends to make the Ethereum Foundation (EF) a more unified organization with streamlined teams focused on impactful resource allocation. The AllCoreDevs call presented two key Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs): one aimed at reducing node load through pipelined block validation and another focused on improving UX and censorship resistance via fork-choice inclusion lists. However, some developers expressed concerns over the omission of censorship resistance, privacy, and end-user security as strategic goals. Amidst this shift, layoffs occurred within the EF, though specific numbers were not disclosed. The goal is for Glamsterdam to serve as a significant test of the new organizational model, which, according to Beiko, presents a unique opportunity to deploy Ethereum’s technology and values at a global scale.
