Ethereum pushes back Pectra upgrade to conduct third testnet ‘Hoodi’
Ethereum core developers have announced a delay in the Pectra upgrade, which aims to enhance Ethereum wallets' functionality, to conduct a third testnet named Hoodi. Initially set for late 2024, the upgrade has been postponed until at least late April following issues encountered in the first two testnets. The Hoodi testnet is scheduled to launch on March 17, with the Pectra upgrade planned for activation on March 26. If successful, the core developers may target a mainnet launch for Pectra by April 25. The Pectra upgrade combines features from earlier proposals and includes over 10 Ethereum Improvement Proposals to improve user experience and scalability, effectively doubling the data availability blob count from three to six. The initiative reflects Ethereum's ongoing efforts to improve network performance and user interface, amid calls for faster protocol updates from community stakeholders.
