After shutting down the original Zed Run in February, Virtually Human Studios is launching a new version called Zed Champions on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network. Scheduled for public release on Monday at 8 PM ET, Zed Champions will allow players to race and breed digital horses, operating with a new automated racing system that dynamically matches horses of similar skill levels. This eliminates the manual entry requirement that was present in the original game. The game will focus on the ZED token, which is integral for entering races, breeding, and purchasing in-game power-ups. Each horse's ZED token balance will vary with their performance, and players can choose to retire horses to cash out their earnings. Unlike the original game, none of the legacy horses will transfer over. Instead, previous players will receive rewards based on their engagement prior to the shutdown. The new version aims for a fresh start and sustainability, incorporating lessons learned from past challenges.
