Ethereum Game 'Aavegotchi' Will Dump Polygon for Base, Shutter Layer-3 Network
Aavegotchi, a popular crypto game, is set to migrate from the Polygon network to Coinbase’s layer-2 network, Base, after a successful community vote. The decision will also see the game’s own layer-3 network, Geist, being shut down. Pixelcraft Studios, the developer of Aavegotchi, cited stagnant gaming activity on Polygon and the challenges of running its own chain as reasons for this shift. The migration process, which is expected to take 4-6 weeks, will involve cloning and re-minting all existing NFT assets on Base while freezing the original ones on Polygon. This move reflects the evolving landscape of crypto gaming and the struggles faced by many gaming tokens, as Aavegotchi’s GHST token has recently experienced a decline. The article also highlights the importance of adapting to market conditions, especially as top gaming tokens have seen significant downturns in value.
