Ethereum's Fusaka hard fork is set for Q3 or Q4 2025, as announced by Ethereum Foundation official Tomasz Kajetan Stańczak. The rollout schedule remains undecided amid heated discussions on the EVM object format (EOF) integration. EOF aims to introduce structural changes to the Ethereum's smart contract bytecode for improved efficiency and reduced processing overhead. Key features of EOF include a new container format for bytecode and the replacement of JUMP instructions with more secure alternatives, thereby reducing the potential for bugs and malware within smart contracts. However, the upgrade has faced criticism from some developers who argue it adds unnecessary complexity and may require substantial tooling upgrades that could introduce new vulnerabilities. Despite the controversy, supporters believe EOF will facilitate easier upgrades and a cleaner development environment. Recent polls show a significant portion of the community, holding nearly 17,745 Ether, oppose the upgrade, reflecting a divide within the Ethereum developer community regarding the desirability of such major changes.
