Ethereum devs test a 4x increase in gas limit for Fusaka hard fork
Ethereum developers are exploring a significant increase in the network's gas limit as part of the upcoming Fusaka hard fork, aimed at raising it to 150 million from the current 36 million. This proposal is linked to Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 9678, introduced by Sophia Gold. Discussions during a recent core developers' meeting indicated that this gas limit increase could be a crucial feature of the hard fork. Tim Beiko highlighted the need for EIP coordination to ensure client developers adjust their defaults in preparation. While validators ultimately set the gas limit, establishing an EIP is intended to keep the increase a priority. Developers are mindful that testing the raised gas limits may uncover bugs that will require attention. The Fusaka hard fork is expected to be ready for mainnet activation in late 2025, and further adjustments may also be needed through additional EIPs before its deployment.
