El Salvador buys 12 Bitcoin in a day, bringing reserve to 6,068 BTC
El Salvador has expanded its Bitcoin reserve by purchasing 12 BTC, bringing the total to 6,068 BTC, valued at over $554 million. The latest acquisitions took place amid a dip in the crypto market, with 11 BTC bought for around $1.1 million at an average price of $101,816, followed by an additional 1 BTC for $99,114. El Salvador's National Bitcoin Office reported that the country has accumulated 21 BTC within the week and 60 BTC over the past month. This growth is notable despite recent agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where President Nayib Bukele's government pledged to lessen its involvement with Bitcoin, including making cryptocurrency use voluntary and altering the Chivo wallet's government-led features. Meanwhile, Bitcoin saw fluctuations, hitting a low of approximately $96,000 before recovering to around $98,000, although it remains below its previous highs. Despite the IMF agreement, El Salvador's Bitcoin purchases are expected to intensify in 2025.
