DTCC to promote ERC3643 token standard
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which is the primary clearinghouse for securities transactions in the United States, has announced its commitment to promoting Ethereum's ERC-3643 standard for permissioned securities tokens. This move, dated March 20, signifies a step forward in the adoption of tokenization in the U.S., emphasizing the potential role of the Ethereum blockchain in the permissioned security token ecosystem, as noted by Dennis O’Connell, president of the ERC3643 Association. The ERC-3643 standard, also known as the T-REX Protocol, is an open-source suite of smart contracts that facilitates the issuance, management, and transfer of permissioned tokens. In 2023 alone, the DTCC processed an impressive aggregate of $3 quadrillion worth of transactions, highlighting its critical position in U.S. financial infrastructure. The endorsement is significant as it reflects how U.S. regulators are increasingly acknowledging and embracing the concept of tokenization in the finance sector. This commitment by DTCC could potentially lead to more institutional adoption and advance the future of tokenization on a larger scale.
