Director of '47 Ronin' Charged With Defrauding Netflix, Misusing $11M on Crypto and Luxury Goods
Carl Rinsch, the director of '47 Ronin,' has been arrested on charges of wire fraud and money laundering after allegedly misappropriating $11 million from Netflix intended for his sci-fi series 'White Horse.' Rinsch had initially secured $44 million from the streaming service but requested further funding, transferring the money to personal accounts instead of using it for the show. Prosecutors claim he lost significant amounts through risky cryptocurrency investments and used the funds for luxury purchases, including high-end cars, expensive furniture, and clothing. Despite completing only six short-form episodes, Rinsch never delivered the finished product to Netflix. If convicted, he faces up to 90 years in prison, with charges including wire fraud and money laundering, alongside multiple counts related to financial transactions involving criminal proceeds.
