Péter Szilágyi, the lead developer of the Geth Ethereum client and a former employee of the Ethereum Foundation, has publicly accused the organization of undermining his team by secretly establishing and funding a second Geth development team within another organization, Nethermind. Szilágyi detailed on social media that the Ethereum Foundation encouraged Geth developers to seek employment elsewhere, proposed salary reductions, and offered $5 million for the Geth team to form a private company. His claims include being informed of the secret team only in November 2024, after confronting Josh Stark, a representative of the Foundation, regarding the situation. Szilágyi, who was subsequently fired from the Foundation, criticized the organization's recent restructuring and funding strategy, which includes shifting its financial model to decentralized finance rather than selling Ether for operations, aimed at increasing transparency in budgeting and operational costs within the community.
