Deutsche Boerse’s trading unit, Clearstream, is set to introduce cryptocurrency custody and settlement services for institutional clients in April 2025. The services will initially focus on Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) offerings, responding to the rising demand for regulated digital asset infrastructure from over 2,500 institutions. These digital asset services will be facilitated through Crypto Finance AG, a subsidiary based in Switzerland acquired by Deutsche Boerse in 2021. Clearstream aims to expand its offerings, including other cryptocurrencies and additional services such as staking, lending, and brokerage capabilities. Jens Hachmeister, head of issuer services and new digital markets at Clearstream, emphasizes the creation of a comprehensive solution that encompasses custody, brokerage, and settlement. This initiative aligns with the regulatory shift in Europe, particularly following the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which came into effect at the end of 2024, enhancing the framework for crypto asset service providers.
