Frank Mong, COO of Nova Labs, highlights the financial benefits of decentralizing telecommunication networks for both small businesses and telecom giants. In an interview at Consensus 2025, he explained how small businesses like bars and convenience stores can leverage decentralized infrastructure, particularly through the Helium Network, to expand network coverage. Large telecom companies can use Helium's telemetry to reduce operational costs and expand coverage in underserved areas. Mong pointed out the high cost of traditional infrastructure, stating it can cost around $300,000 per tower, which can lead to increased phone plan prices. By sharing Wi-Fi networks securely, individuals can provide valuable data to telecoms without the hefty costs of new towers. Nova Labs aims to expand its partnerships globally, recently collaborating with TelefĂłnica in Latin America and discussing integrations with AT&T to utilize Helium's mobile hotspot network. The Helium Network currently has over 95,000 mobile hotspots across the U.S. and 284,000 IoT hotspots worldwide.
