Science is constrained by traditional systems like walled-off journals, slow institutions, and bureaucratic funding. Decentralized Science (DeSci) has evolved into a billion-dollar movement, but it faces significant challenges such as scalability and quality control. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can revolutionize DeSci by merging with its decentralized infrastructure to create DeScAI, a system where scientific discoveries flow freely without barriers. In this vision, AI would enhance collaboration, access to data, and funding processes. Researchers would connect and contribute ideas organically, while data contributors would maintain ownership and be compensated for their contributions. DeScAI aims to make peer review a dynamic, real-time process, ensuring transparency and accountability. However, traditional institutions may resist this shift, fearing a loss of control. Ultimately, DeScAI seeks to demonstrate superior efficiency and innovation, paralleling how DeFi challenged banking, thereby prompting traditional academia to adapt or risk being left behind.
