Darkweb actors claim to have over 100K of Gemini, Binance user info
Darkweb actors have claimed to possess over 100,000 records of user information from Gemini and Binance, offering these lists for sale online. According to a blog post by the Dark Web Informer, the hacker known as AKM69 is selling data that includes names, emails, phone numbers, and location details primarily from users in the United States, with some entries from Singapore and the UK. This incident has raised concerns as Binance stated that the data was not leaked from their exchange, but gathered through malware that compromised users' devices. This aligns with claims that a previous hacker, FireBear, attempted to sell a much larger database of 12.8 million records without a legitimate leak from Binance. The exchange reiterated that the compromised information originated through phishing and other user-end vulnerabilities rather than their systems. As of late March 2025, the ongoing cybersecurity threats highlight the importance of user vigilance, particularly against scams targeting cryptocurrency users.
