P2P.me, a peer-to-peer app, has raised $2 million in seed funding from Multicoin and Coinbase Ventures to facilitate stablecoin payments in the QR code economy. The app seeks to address the gap between crypto payments and fiat acceptance, particularly in countries with limited traditional financial infrastructures. P2P.me does away with conventional identity checks, utilizing zero-knowledge proofs for user verification while ensuring privacy by not storing personal data. The application allows users to send USDC, which is converted to fiat by a network of middlemen—taking approximately 90 seconds for the transaction. Currently, the platform has processed $1.6 million in payments primarily from users in Indonesia, Nigeria, and Vietnam. The newly acquired funds will help expand P2P.me's team and facilitate a future launch in Latin America, targeting communities that struggle with established financial systems and crypto-savvy travelers. Additionally, P2P.me plans to introduce a community-controlled token within the next year to enhance global scalability.
