Crypto scam reporting needs to move ‘under one umbrella’
The reporting of crypto scams in the United States is currently fragmented, according to Coinbase CSO Philip Martin. He advocates for a streamlined system where all scam reports can be made in one place, which would help ascertain the severity of the problem and allocate governmental resources more effectively. Many victims report scams to various agencies, often feeling ignored, as exemplified by the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, to which victims seldom receive feedback. During a panel discussion, retired FBI agent Roger Campbell pointed out the necessity of a consolidated reporting system like the one in the UK, which allows victims to track their complaints. In addition to improving reporting mechanisms, Martin highlighted the challenges of dealing with scams that largely originate from countries with limited law enforcement reach. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation to combat such global issues. Martin also noted a lag in reporting and the need for a more proactive approach to protect potential victims.
