The reporting of crypto scams in the U.S. is currently fragmented, according to Coinbase's chief security officer Philip Martin. He emphasized the need for a unified reporting system to help victims more effectively address scams. Currently, victims face confusion on where to report their issues, leading to feelings of frustration as they often receive no feedback from entities like the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Martin highlighted the importance of consolidating various reporting channels for better data collection and victim support. Retired FBI agent Roger Campbell echoed this sentiment, describing a lack of resolution for victims. He cited the UK’s successful system as a model, where all crimes can be reported through a single portal, allowing victims to track their complaints. Martin also pointed out the international complexity of dealing with crypto scams, which often originate from regions difficult for law enforcement to penetrate. He advocated for improved international cooperation to combat these scams more effectively.
