Crypto Losses of $1.7 Billion Already Surpass Total 2024 Mark
According to crypto data firm Immunefi, crypto losses in 2025 have exceeded $1.7 billion, outpacing the entire total of 2024, which was $1.49 billion. This surge in losses, attributed largely to cybercriminal activities, includes nearly $100 million lost in just April. Last year, losses for the same period were reported at $420 million. The increase is significantly influenced by the largest hack in crypto history, where $1.4 billion worth of Ethereum and related assets was stolen from the exchange Bybit. The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector has also faced multiple attacks, with hackers stealing approximately $92.4 million from various decentralized networks across 15 distinct incidents. Ethereum and BNB Chain were identified as the most targeted platforms, accounting for 60% of the total losses across all blockchains. Despite falling victim to such extensive exploits, there are indications that established DeFi projects are becoming more secure over time as their security practices improve.
