Crypto exec warns of ‘ELUSIVE COMET’ threat after losing 75% of assets
Emblem Vault CEO Jake Gallen reported a devastating loss of over $100,000 in digital assets due to a scam orchestrated by a threat actor known as 'ELUSIVE COMET.' This incident occurred after Gallen participated in a Zoom meeting with a verified account posed as a YouTube personality. During the call, malware was installed on his computer, allowing the hacker to drain multiple crypto wallets. Gallen emphasized the importance of cybersecurity and warned others about the risks associated with Zoom's default remote access feature, which can give meeting hosts substantial control over participants' computers. Despite having logged into his crypto wallet only a few times, the hackers managed to access it along with his social media account to lure additional victims. Cybersecurity firm SEAL warned that 'ELUSIVE COMET' is responsible for significant theft within the crypto community and operates under a façade of legitimacy through a venture capital firm. Users who have interacted with this malicious group are advised to seek assistance from SEAL's emergency hotline.
