Crypto exchange Kraken has secured a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license in the European Union, allowing it to offer crypto derivatives products across the 27-nation bloc. This license was acquired through the purchase of a Cypriot investment firm that already held the license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Kraken plans to fulfill the necessary conditions to launch these products in local EU markets over the coming months. With this achievement, Kraken joins other exchanges, such as FTX EU, which also possess MiFID licenses. This development is part of Kraken's broader expansion strategy in Europe, which previously included the acquisition of Crypto Facilities, a U.K.-regulated crypto futures platform in 2019.
