Crypto Exchange Coinbase (COIN) in Talks for Return to India 2 Years After Exit
Crypto exchange Coinbase is reportedly in discussions with Indian authorities, including the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), to secure a license to return to India two years after it suspended operations there in 2022. The exchange had begun operations in India but halted new user registrations in 2023. Coinbase indicated that it is eager to comply with regulatory requirements and explore opportunities in the Indian market. The company's potential return mirrors actions taken by other exchanges, such as Binance and Bybit, that have also sought to establish their presence in the country post-regulation. While Coinbase continues to provide a wallet service to Indian users, it has not made any formal announcement regarding its re-entry plans as discussions with the FIU are ongoing.
