COTI launches V2 mainnet: A new era of privacy-focused L2 solutions
COTI has launched its V2 mainnet, transitioning from its original DAG-based protocol L1 to an EVM-compatible, privacy-focused L2 chain. The launch follows over two years of research and development, with the goal of shifting user activity from the L1 to the new L2. A key innovation in this upgrade is the implementation of garbled circuits—cryptography enabling computation over encrypted data, developed in collaboration with Soda Labs. This technology is seen as more efficient than zero-knowledge proofs, typically used for privacy in the blockchain space. COTI aims to offer a solution for enterprises needing regulatory compliance by facilitating selective data disclosure, addressing the current limitations faced by tokenized real-world assets. The new mainnet aligns with the industry’s growing demand for compliant privacy solutions, promising to enable sophisticated applications like decentralized exchanges. Approximately 15,000 wallets received airdropped tokens to celebrate the launch, amidst competition from other privacy-focused chains employing zero-knowledge technology.
