The hacker responsible for a data breach at Coinbase has taunted blockchain investigator ZachXBT after executing a significant crypto swap. On May 21, the hacker transferred around $42.5 million from Bitcoin to Ethereum using THORChain and left a mocking message on the blockchain, which included a meme of NBA player James Worthy. This breach involved the data of over 69,000 Coinbase users and was revealed after attackers demanded a $20 million ransom in Bitcoin. Coinbase refused the ransom and instead offered a bounty for information on the hackers. Following this incident, the hacker further exchanged 8,697 ETH for 22 million DAI, indicating continued movement of the funds through THORChain, which has drawn scrutiny for its facilitation of illicit transactions. The incident comes amid ongoing concerns over crypto security, as Coinbase faces several lawsuits related to the handling of the breach and the adequacy of its security measures.
