Coinbase has launched futures contracts for the XRP token on its US derivatives exchange as of April 21, 2025. The contracts are regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and provide a capital-efficient means for traders to engage with this liquid digital asset. The listed futures include standard contracts for 10,000 XRP and smaller nano contracts representing 500 XRP, priced around $1,000 at launch. These new contracts expand Coinbase's offerings, joining previously launched futures for Solana and Hedera. Since 2024, US exchanges have been boosting crypto futures offerings, catering to retail and institutional traders with opportunities for hedging and speculation. The XRP Ledger, launched in 2012, focuses on payment solutions and decentralized finance applications. As of the announcement, XRP's market capitalization is approximately $120 billion. Ongoing legal actions against Ripple, the developer of XRP, regarding alleged securities law violations, continue to be a factor in the market's perception of XRP.
