Coinbase aware of recently disclosed data leak since January: Reuters
Coinbase was reportedly informed in January about a potential customer data leak tied to an employee of an outsourcing company, TaskUs. The incident involved an India-based employee taking pictures of her work computer and allegedly sharing customer information with hackers for money. Coinbase disclosed this breach in a regulatory filing on May 14, following the mass layoff of over 200 TaskUs employees in January amid protests in India. Two specific TaskUs employees were identified as the main culprits in the data leak, which affected customer information. Coinbase stated it cut ties with the involved personnel and enhanced its control measures. The firm rejected a $20 million ransom demand after hackers leaked user data in mid-May. Additionally, TaskUs faced allegations in a prior lawsuit related to a data breach involving customer information from crypto wallet maker Ledger.
