Google has introduced an AI-powered mechanism in Chrome to protect Android users from scam notifications. Utilizing the capabilities of Gemini Nano, the system analyzes notifications on-device, ensuring user privacy by not sending data to Google's servers. When a suspicious notification is detected, users receive a warning indicating potential deception, along with options to unsubscribe or view the flagged content. Google emphasizes that this proactive approach is crucial as many malicious sites exist for short durations, making on-device detection more effective than server-based analysis. The goal is to enhance security and simplify user experience by automatically flagging scams without requiring manual intervention. This feature is presently limited to Android, given the prevalence of such scams on mobile devices, but there are plans for possible expansion to other platforms in the future.
