Chainalysis CEO Jonathan Levin highlighted that many criminal organizations mistakenly believe cryptocurrencies are untraceable, contributing to a recent wave of crypto-related kidnappings in Paris. During the 2025 Consensus crypto conference, Levin noted that successful law enforcement actions have led to numerous arrests, contradicting the perception of crypto as a safe medium for criminal activities. Two notable kidnappings occurred in Paris this month: one involving the CEO of the crypto exchange Paymium and another involving a ransom demand of 7 million euros. Levin stressed that payment recovery is possible and that authorities have been effective in tracking criminals. Despite these successes, he cautioned that the situation remains dire, urging individuals to be cautious about sharing personal information online. Furthermore, reports suggest that in-person crypto thefts remain prevalent, indicating a need for heightened security measures within the crypto industry.
