Summer Mersinger, a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will become the new CEO of the Blockchain Association, starting June 2. Her departure from the CFTC is set for May 30. Mersinger is regarded as a crypto-friendly commissioner, having voiced concerns about the CFTC's regulatory approach, particularly regarding a settlement with Uniswap Labs, which she criticized as 'regulation by enforcement.' During a 2023 event, she highlighted that for crypto to thrive in the U.S., clearer legislative policies are necessary to prevent innovation from moving overseas. Mersinger previously served as a senior aide to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who recently expressed his belief that stablecoins should be developed in the U.S. Current CEO Kristin Smith will leave her position after nearly seven years to head the Solana Policy Institute. The Blockchain Association looks forward to Mersinger's leadership during this critical time for crypto policy.
