Bybit releases blacklisted wallets API to aid recovery program
Bybit has announced a bounty of up to 10% of the stolen funds for white hat hackers who manage to recover cryptocurrency taken by the Lazarus Group in a recent hack that resulted in over $1.4 billion being stolen from the exchange. On February 23, Bybit released a blacklisted wallet application programming interface (API) designed to assist these hackers in recovering funds. Bybit's CEO, Ben Zhou, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in building a stronger defense against cyber threats. The bounty initiative is part of a larger recovery effort that includes working with law enforcement in Singapore and engaging with the Ethereum Foundation. Following the hack, discussions on social media suggested rolling back the Ethereum blockchain to before the security breach. Although Zhou acknowledged the idea, he stated that such a decision should be made by community vote rather than an individual. Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko rejected the rollback suggestion, emphasizing that the transaction did not violate protocol rules and warning of broader disruptive implications for the blockchain ecosystem.
