With nearly half of internet traffic generated by bots and automated transactions dominating blockchain activity, issues such as network congestion, inflated fees, and unfair advantages for automated systems are rising. Legitimate bots coexist with malicious ones that disrupt networks, evidenced by increased DDoS attacks in the banking sector. Efforts to address these issues have largely concentrated on scalability, neglecting the need for solutions that prioritize human users. Proposed measures include implementing proof-of-human infrastructure to ensure that blockchains remain accessible and functional for real people by allocating space for verified human transactions and introducing gas subsidies. Ultimately, this shift is crucial to maintain the foundational principles of decentralization and secure human control over blockchain networks, as proactive measures must be taken now to prevent bots from taking over.
