BlackRock’s Bitcoin fund blows past $70B in record pace for ETFs
BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF, the IBIT, has become the fastest ETF in history to exceed $70 billion in assets under management (AUM), achieving this milestone in just 341 days—a feat five times faster than the previous record set by SPDR Gold Shares. IBIT's AUM reached $71.9 billion, now making it the largest institutional holder of Bitcoin, surpassing Binance and Michael Saylor’s Strategy, with total holdings of 661,457 Bitcoin. Analysts predict that IBIT might even surpass Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who is estimated to control around 1.1 million BTC, by next summer. Since its launch in the US in January 2024, IBIT has outperformed its competitors in net inflows. Despite the concerns of some in the Bitcoin community regarding institutional adoption, many believe that ETFs like IBIT provide a simpler entry point for investors looking to gain exposure to Bitcoin.
