Bitdeer Buys 101 MW Gas Power Plant in Alberta, Canada for Bitcoin Mining
Bitdeer has acquired a gas-fired power plant near Fox Creek, Alberta, with a capacity of 101 MW for Bitcoin mining at a cost of $21.7 million. This acquisition marks Bitdeer’s first site in Canada, representing a strategic move towards becoming a fully vertically integrated BTC miner. The company plans to build a 99 MW datacenter on the site, with potential expansion to 1 GW capacity. Energy production costs are estimated between $20 to $25 per MW/h. The facility is also authorized for a 99 MW connection to the local power grid, and Bitdeer intends to sell excess power back to Alberta's grid to help stabilize prices during peak demand periods. Initial infrastructure development is scheduled for Q2 2025, with an operational target of Q4 2026.
