Saifedean Ammous, economist and author of The Bitcoin Standard, has expressed his willingness to fund a developer dedicated to making Bitcoin spamming more difficult and costly. His comments arose from a discussion initiated by the developer GrassFedBitcoin regarding the issue of spam inscriptions on the Bitcoin network. GrassFedBitcoin emphasized the need for Bitcoin Core to merge a pull request that would allow node operators to filter inscriptions more effectively, arguing that current limitations contribute to blockchain bloat. Ammous likened the spam situation to email spam, advocating for efforts to combat it without censoring valid transactions. He suggested employing outside developers to counteract spam mechanism tools. The ongoing debate highlights tensions within the Bitcoin community regarding the network’s intended use and the increasing need for technical solutions to manage spam-related issues, especially as these inscriptions continue to congest the network.
